Dawn at a Sumo Stable — Morning Keiko

About this experience
Keiko, the morning practice, kicks off at 6am and runs for about two hours. It's nothing like a tournament: barefoot drills, a lot of repetition, long stretches of silence, the occasional bark from the oyakata. I have a long-standing relationship with a small stable near Ryogoku and they're fine with me bringing one or two people along to sit at the side of the dohyo. Afterwards we go upstairs for chanko nabe with whoever happens to be in the kitchen. I'll quietly explain what you're watching as we go.
