Kendo Basics — Shinai, Footwork & the First Strike

About this experience
Two hours in a small Adachi dojo, working through the basics of kendo at a pace that respects what your body is actually doing. We start with how to hold the shinai (most people get this wrong on the first try), then suri-ashi footwork, then the relationship between breath and strike. By the end you'll be in men and kote and you'll land a proper men-uchi with a real kiai. It's a quieter, more meditative practice than it looks from the outside — but the sound of a clean strike will stay with you.
Highlights
- Grip, footwork and strike, taught patiently from scratch
- Suit up in men and kote for the final part of the session

- Kendo framed as a practice, not a workout
